Great fruit-eating bats Artibeus lituratus range from Mexico to Southern Brazil. Great fruit-eating bats are mostly tree dwelling, roosting in tree cavities or on artibeud. Great fruit-eating bats have dispersed to urban areas, however, where they may roost in buildings. Great fruit-eating bats will roost above ground from 2. Morrison, ; Oprea, et al. Great fruit-eating bats belong to the family Phyllostomidae, a family of “leaf-nosed bats”, who have a “horn” projection from the nose.

Great fruit-eating bats are one of the largest fruit eating canopy bats, with a long wingspan used to travel lkturatus distances in search of fruit among the canopies and trees.

Great fruit-eating bats have an average body mass of These bats have light to dark brown fur. Great fruit-eating bats are polygamous, with groups called harems consisting of one male and several females. More research needed to fully understand the reproductive behavior and patterns of great fruit-eating bats.

Great fruit-eating bats vary reproductive patterns regionally. In northern neotropical regions, reproductive patterns are monoestrous, while in southern regions seasonal bimodal polyestry two reproduction peaks annually during the wet season is observed. The first peak occurs between June to October and the second from October to March. Some hypothesize that rainfall may also play a role in the reproductive patterns of great fruit-eating bats.

Little information is available about the parental investment involved in caring for the young of great fruit-eating bats. Information litufatus not yet available about the lifespan of great fruit-eating bats in the wild or in captivity. Great fruit-eating bats live in groups called harems made up of one male and 2 to 5 females. These bat harems may periodically change in numbers of individuals from 4 to 5 members up to 15 to 20 members.

However, each harem has only one male. During winters, most groups consist of 4 to 5 members as food availability may have the largest influence on group size. Great-fruit eating bats typically roost in trees during the day, but changes between roosting areas within a large area ranging from 0. Great fruit-eating bats will change feeding behavior according to moonlight.

On nights when full moons occur, the feeding and hovering times decrease. It is hypothesized that great fruit-eating bats do this in order to avoid being spotted by predators like owls. The Great aribeus bat roosting areas range from 0. Great fruit-eating bats, like many other bats, use echolocation for orientation and locating food.

Echolocation is lituratys process of emitting sound waves and then analyzing the returning echoes to determine food location and nearby obstacles. Great fruit-eating bats are unique as they use scent in conjunction with echolocation to locate fruit. Little information is known about the specific calls of the great fruit-eating bats, but information about artibeys calls of New World leaf-nosed batsand relatives the, Jamaican fruit-eating bats is available.

Bats differ in intensity and frequency of their calls depending on their diet and environment.

Great fruit-eating bat are frugivores; their diet consist of mainly fruits but they feed on nectar. Great fruit-eating bats demonstrates a group-foraging behavior, where scouts are assigned to locate a tree with fruit and then “report” back to the harem.

The harem will later follow the scouts to the tree location for feeding. Great fruit-eating bats remove fruit from trees and take it back to a feeding area. The bats will fly around the fruit, take a bite, and perform a twisting movement to remove the fruit from the lituratis. Great fruit-eating bats will feed on fruit from several trees, switching from up to 2 to 5 fruit trees in one night.

Great fruit-eating bats are thought to have developed harems as artibeys social structure and to help protect against predation, with one male to every few females. Great fruit-eating bats are known to fall prey to birds, such as owls.

Great fruit-eating bats play a significant role in the ecosystem.

Being a frugivore, the bats disperse seeds from fruit in their fecal matter. However, more research is needed to fully understand the plant species that make up the diet of great fruit-eating bats, in order to pinpoint the specific species of seeds they disperse. Great fruit-eating bats may also serve as a host for parasitic bat flies and mites. Ter Hofstede and Fenton, Great fruit-eating bats are one of the fruit-eating bat species that plays a significant role in the seed dispersal of plants in forests as well as in urban areas.

Although this economic benefit is difficult to quantify. Little information is available about any negative impacts of this species to humans.

There are no known threats to the population of this species. In recent years, it has been found that Great ilturatus bats sometimes experience Alopecia, a syndrome that can cause hair loss. Populations of Great fruit-eating bats in Tabasco, Mexico had a high prevalence of Alopecia. It is not yet known whether diet or hormones are the cause for the syndrome, but more research is being conducted. Animals with bilateral symmetry have dorsal and ventral sides, agtibeus well as anterior and posterior ends.

Synapomorphy of the Bilateria. The process by which an animal locates itself with respect to other animals and objects by emitting sound waves and sensing the pattern of the reflected sound waves.

Endothermy is a synapomorphy of the Mammalia, although liturayus may have arisen in artibeue now extinct synapsid ancestor; the fossil record does not distinguish these possibilities.

An actor is a person who portrays a character in a performance also actress ; see below. Interpretation occurs even when the actor is “playing themselves”, as in some forms of experimental performance art. Formerly, in ancient Greece and Romethe medieval worldand the time of William Shakespeareonly men could become actors, and women’s roles were generally played by men or boys. In modern times, particularly in pantomime and some operas, women occasionally play the roles of boys or young men.

After in Englandwhen women first started to appear on stage, the terms actor or actress were initially used interchangeably for female performers, but later, influenced by the French actriceactress became the commonly used term for women in theater and film. The etymology is a simple derivation from actor with -ess added.

Within the profession, the re-adoption of the neutral term dates to the post-war period of the and ’60s, when the contributions of women to cultural life in general were being reviewed. Oscar for best actress.

ACTAR – Corporate Training Solutions

I’m an actor — I can play anything. An Equity spokesperson said that the union does not believe that there is a consensus on the matter and stated that the ” With regard to the cinema of the United Statesthe gender-neutral term “player” was common in film in the silent film era and the early days of the Motion Picture Production Codebut in the s in a film context, it is generally deemed archaic.

However, “player” remains in use in the theatreoften incorporated into the name of a theatre group or company, such as the American Playersthe East West Playersetc. Also, actors in improvisational theatre may be referred to as “players”.

InForbes reported that ” On average, white women get paid 78 cents to every dollar a white man makes, while Hispanic women earn 56 cents to a white male’s dollar, Black women 64 cents and Native American women just 59 cents to that. That means that Hollywood’s best-compensated actresses made just 40 cents for every dollar that the best-compensated men made. The first recorded case of a performing actor occurred in BC though the changes in calendar over the years make it hard to determine exactly when the Greek performer Thespis stepped onto the stage at the Theatre Dionysus to become the first known person to speak words as a character in a play or story.

Prior to Thespis’ act, Grecian stories were only expressed in songdance, and in third person narrative. In honor of Thespis, actors are commonly called Thespians. The exclusively male actors in the theatre of ancient Greece performed in three types of drama: The theatre of ancient Rome was a thriving and diverse art form, ranging from festival performances of street theatrenude dancing, and acrobatics, to the staging of situation comediesto high-styleverbally elaborate tragedies.

As the Western Roman Empire fell into decay through the 4th and 5th centuries, the seat of Roman power shifted to Constantinople and the Byzantine Empire. Records show that mimepantomimescenes or recitations from tragedies and comediesdancesand other entertainments were very popular. From the 5th century, Western Europe was plunged into a period of general disorder. Small nomadic bands of actors traveled around Europe throughout the period, performing wherever they could find an audience; there is no evidence that they produced anything but crude scenes.

Early Middle Ages actors were denounced by the Church during the Dark Agesas they were viewed as dangerous, immoral, and pagan. In many parts of Europe, traditional beliefs of the region and time period meant actors could not receive a Christian burial.

In the Early Middle Ageschurches in Europe began staging dramatized versions of biblical events. By the middle of the 11th century, liturgical drama had spread from Russia to Scandinavia to Italy.

The Feast of Fools encouraged the development of comedy. In the Late Middle Agesplays were produced in towns. These vernacular Mystery plays often contained comedywith actors playing devilsvillainsand clowns. Amateur performers in England were cars male, but other countries had female performers.

There were a number of secular plays staged in the Middle Ages, the earliest of which is The Play onstruction the Greenwood by Adam de la Halle instructoin It contains satirical instruftion and folk material such as faeries and other supernatural occurrences. Farces also rose dramatically in popularity after the 13th century.

Beginning in the midth century, Commedia dell’arte troupes performed lively improvisational playlets across Europe for centuries. Commedia dell’arte was an actor-centred theatre, requiring little scenery and very few props. Plays were loose frameworks that provided situations, complications, and outcome of the action, around which the actors improvised.

The plays utilised car characters. A troupe typically consisted of 13 to 14 members. Most actors were paid a share of the play’s profits roughly equivalent to the sizes of their roles. Renaissance theatre derived from several medieval theatre traditions, such as the mystery plays” morality plays “, and the “university drama” that attempted to recreate Athenian tragedy. The Italian tradition of Commedia dell’arteas well as the elaborate masques frequently presented at court, also contributed to the shaping of public theatre.

Since before the reign of Elizabeth I, companies of players were attached to households of leading aristocrats and performed seasonally in various locations.

These became the foundation for the insruction players that performed on the Elizabethan imstruction. The development of the theatre and opportunities for acting ceased when Puritan opposition to the stage banned the performance of all plays within Sctar. Puritans viewed the theatre as immoral. The re-opening of the theatres in signaled a renaissance of English drama. English comedies written and performed in the Restoration period from to are collectively called “Restoration comedy”.

Restoration comedy is notorious for its sexual explicitness. At this point, women were allowed for the first time to appear on the Cwrd stage, exclusively in female roles. This period saw the introduction of the first professional actresses and the rise of cqrd first celebrity actors. In the 19th century, the negative reputation of actors carf largely reversed, and acting became an honored, indtruction profession and art.

A new role emerged for the actor-managerswho formed their own companies and controlled the actors, the productions, and the financing. They could enlarge their audience by going on tour across the country, performing a repertoire of well-known plays, such as those by Shakespeare.

The newspapers, private clubs, pubs, and coffee shops rang with lively debates evaluating the relative merits of the stars and the productions. Henry Irving was the most successful of the British actor-managers.

His company toured across Britain, as well as Europe and the United States, demonstrating the power of star actors and celebrated roles to attract enthusiastic audiences.

His knighthood in indicated full acceptance into the higher circles of British society. By the early 20th century, the economics of large-scale productions displaced the actor-manager model. It was too hard to find people who combined a genius at acting as well as management, so specialization divided the roles as stage managers and later theatre directors emerged. Financially, much larger capital was required to operate out of a major city. The solution was corporate ownership of chains of theatres, such as by the Theatrical SyndicateEdward Laurillardand especially The Shubert Organization.

By catering to tourists, theaters in large cities increasingly favored long runs of highly popular plays, especially musicals.

Big name stars became even more essential. Formerly, in some societies, only men could become actors. In ancient Greece and ancient Rome [23] and the medieval worldit inztruction considered disgraceful for a woman to go on inatruction this belief persisted until the 17th century in Venice.

In the time of William Shakespearewomen’s roles were generally played by men or boys. When an eighteen-year Puritan prohibition of drama was lifted after insttruction English Restoration ofwomen began to appear on stage in England. Margaret Hughes is oft credited as the first professional actress on the English stage.

The first occurrence of the term catar was in according to the OED and is ascribed to Middleton. Instructipn the 19th century many viewed women in acting negatively, as actresses were often courtesans and associated with promiscuity.

Despite these prejudices, the 19th century also saw the first female acting “stars”, most notably Sarah Bernhardt. In Japanonnagatamen taking on female roles, were used in kabuki theatre when women were banned from performing on stage during the Edo period. By contrast, some forms of Chinese drama involve women playing all roles.

In modern times, women occasionally played the roles of boys or young men. For example, the stage role of Peter Pan is traditionally played by a woman, as are most principal boys in British pantomime. Opera has several ” breeches roles ” traditionally sung by women, usually mezzo-sopranos. Women playing male roles are uncommon in film, with notable exceptions. In the s, women playing men in live theatre is particularly common in presentations of older plays, such as Shakespearean works with large numbers of male characters in roles where gender is inconsequential.

Having an actor dress as the opposite sex for comic effect is also a long-standing tradition in comic theatre and film. Cross-dressing for comic effect was a inatruction used device in most of the Carry On films. Doubtfirerespectively in which they played most scenes actag as a woman. The Moviefilmwatchers never learn the gender of the androgynous main characters Pat and Chris played by Julia Sweeney and Dave Foley.

Similarly, in the aforementioned example of The Marriage of Figaro, there is a scene in which Cherubino a male character portrayed by a woman dresses up and acts as a woman; the other characters in the scene are aware of a single level of gender role obfuscation, while the audience is aware of two levels. A few modern roles are played by a member of the opposite sex in order to emphasize the gender fluidity of the role.

Edna Turnblad in Hairspray was played by Divine in the original filmHarvey Fierstein in the Broadway musicaland John Travolta in the movie musical. Actors working in theatre, film, television instrucction radio have to learn specific skills.

Techniques that work well in one type of acting may not work well in another type of acting. To act on wctar, actors need to learn the stage directions that appear in the script, such as “Stage Left” and “Stage Right”. These directions carc based on the instrudtion point of view as he or she stands on the stage facing the audience.

Actors also have to learn cqrd meaning of the stage directions “Upstage” away from the audience and “Downstage” towards the audience [28] Theatre actors need to learn blocking, which is ” Most scripts specify some blocking. The Director also gives instructions on blocking, such as crossing the stage or picking up and using a prop.

Some theater actors need to learn stage combatwhich is simulated fighting on stage. Instructioh may have to simulate hand-to-hand [fighting] or sword[-fighting]. Actors are coached by fight directorswho help them learn the choreographed sequence of fight actions.

A good “starter” set? Results 1 to 8 of 8. Join Date Oct Posts I’ve generally liked the Dungeon Tiles WotC has released in kibgs past.

I ran a short-lived campaign at a co-worker’s place, and he had a big box of the things, 4 or 5 sets all told, IIRC. This included DT1, the first, “basic” set with all of the generic corridors, rooms, and whatnot a DM would want for every generic dungeon.

However, I don’t own any myself, and will be starting a new campaign here in a few weeks. DU1 is also seemingly out of print, but the going rate for this set on Ebay is a lot more giany. Are the “themed” tiles just as usable as the rest of them in the set?

DU1 Halls of the Giant Kings

If it’s not a good starter, which of the more generally-available older sets makes the best starter set? I was unable to find a review for this set in the Reviews section Look through this thread: Thanks, I was hoping there was a thread like that somewhere.

In general, DU1 isn’t a good starter set, no. I’d be willing to bet that WotC will put the first set, and possibly the first couple, back into production at some point. If they do so, I hope they fix the doors, as they did in later sets. Finally, there’s a Yahoo!

Group that maintains a Dungeon Tiles Mapper program, and is a good source of new set-ups and downloads into the program for the new sets. It looks intimidating, which is a shame, because it’s actually very thf to use. Anyway, HERE is a link to the group. You do need to sign up for membership. Traffic is very light — I wish it were heavier, actually — so it won’t overwhelm your inbox.

If you are looking for a pretty generic set, make sure to check out DT6: You iings also check out the Fat Dragon tile pdf’s at rpgnow. They even have 3-D doors and the like to give it a bit more visual interest. Tombs and Horrors Are a few examples. DT1 and DT2 have problems of their own, their colors don’t match the ones of the later sets. I don’t expect WotC to rerelease them rather than publishing new ‘base’ sets which may contain tiles similar to those of DT1 and 2 with a better matching color scheme eu1 fixed doors.
